There’s a bit of a controversy brewing (no pun intended) in Australia involving how far coffee fanatics go to get the ultimate latte. Writer Jamila Rizvi walked into a Melbourne coffee shop and ordered a latte she was expecting a standard latte in a cup. Instead, she waited 20 minutes and received something that looks more like a science experiment – three beakers, one containing espresso, one containing hot water and one containing steamed milk. Basically, a latte deconstructed to it’s three most basic ingredients, allowing you to customize it exactly to your liking. The concept is an interesting one, but not everyone is down with trend. If you visit Jamila’s Facebook page, the comments on her post range from full support to nearly vitriolic rage at the thought of having to build your own latte. What’s your take? Is this going to far, or is it an exciting new trend? Would you want your latte served this way?
